Numbers and baseball

Alright so I just realized how few off days MLB teams get during the regular season. Yet, the League Division Series can take up to 8 days to play only 5 games. So, here are some numbers to help show the ridiculousness of the MLB:

Let's take the Red Sox as our example:
Red Sox 2011 Regular Season Schedule
They play 162 games in 181 days (89.50%).
In a 7-day week, they can expect to play 6.27 games.

Simple as that. The Sox play 6 or 7 games in every Sunday-Saturday week, and only have one day off in June. So you're telling me that they play 6.27 games in a week, but they need more than a week to play up to 5 games? The Red Sox routinely play three- and four-game series in as many days. This is something the MLB needs to fix so its season doesn't end in November.
